Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better – laminate, Engineered timber or bamboo?

It is depend on your lifestyle and budget, the following may be able to help you to decide:

Desire a timber look product with more resistant to general wear and tear?  Our laminate flooring provides the look of timber with more resistant to wear, staining and fading.

So you would like a solid timber look ? Our solid strand woven Bamboo is your choice.

Authentic timber is a must? Our Engineered Oak oin 2mm or 4mm veneer

Can I direct stick the floor?

Yes, you can direct stick the floor, however we recommend that our floors are installed floating. The multi layer floor is engineered to float and is a key design feature in adding stability to your floor. Direct sticking the floor may restrict the movement of the floor as it adjusts to the changing climate conditions (expand and contract). The floating installation is the best approach which allows for this movement.

As the multi layer system is timber and we all know timber expands and contracts, we allow a 10 to 15 mm gap for the movement in the timber. Without the expansion gap the floor will only have one place to go and that is up, resulting in a warped and damaged floor.

How do I maintain my Floating floors?

In order to maximize the durability and beauty of your floating floors, we recommend the following practices as part of your floor’s normal care and maintenance.

  • Place doormats or rugs at entrances to collect moister, sand, grit and other
potentially damaging substances from being tracked onto your floating
    floors.
  • Dust mop or vacuum with a soft accessory to keep your floating floors clean
from dust, dirt or grit. Floating floors clean easily with a Swiffer or similar
    type dry mop.
  • For sticky spots, use a soft damp cloth to gently scrub the floor. If
necessary, use a generic hardwood floor cleaner. Do not use steel wool or
    other abrasive scouring pads.
  • Do not use harsh detergents, abrasive cleansers, or corrosive chemicals to
    clean your floating floors.
  • Avoid excessive water. Use mats in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry
room to protect against spills. If a spill occurs, blot it up immediately with a
dry cloth or slightly damp mop.
  • Use only colourfast and non-scratch carpeting or pads on your floating
    floors.
  • Protect the floor from furniture legs and do not walk on the floor with high-
    heeled shoes.

Will there be any cutting waste?

In an average installation, approximately 5% to 10% of the total area to be covered will be wasted for several reasons, typically cuts, planks damaged during installation.

It is always best to allow 5% to 10% extra for waste and cuts depending on the layout of the area

Can I install floor in wet areas?

Engineered Oak, Laminate and Bamboo are not suitable for wet areas, Excessive moisture can lead to numerous changes to Oak, Bamboo and Laminate flooring.

We do not recommend our floor be installed in bathrooms or saunas, as the humidity cannot be controlled to normal living levels and runs the risk of damaging the floor.

Does the floor scratch?

All floors will scratch and Emperior Floors products are no exception, however, as it can be re-sanded, extreme damage can easily be repaired.

If refinishing or sanding is desired, it should only be finished by a professional installer. Refinishing depends on the thickness of the veneer, for example, if your floor has a 4mm layer of veneer, you can typically sand it 2-3 times.

There are a range of products available to cover minor scratches such as orange oil or bees wax . Surface scratches can be polished or if deep can be sanded or the boards can be replaced.
